Cisco UCS: The Nitty Gritty Details

8 03 2010

So I’m really excited to say that we started getting our UCS environment installed and configured this past week.  If you work in IT and haven’t at least heard the term UCS, or Unified Computing System, then you must have been hiding under a rock over the past year.  Just kidding, but whether you are on board with converged networking and blades in general, chances are you have read a ton of marketing and buzz around this groundbreaking solution.

However, in preparing for the installation I realized that it’s really easy to get lost in all of the marketing and articles, and therefore blinding yourself from the details.  But hey, I love to share information so I have outlined the most relative documentation from Cisco that provides the “meat” around UCS.

This includes a site survey so you can determine if your environment is ready, an interoperability matrix to determine compatibility with your existing systems, and a hardware installation guide to gain a better understanding of the mechanics at play.
